Wednesday 6th Dec

Model:Monica. Time 2hrs20. Oil on canvas.
After a few months break from painting, working on my latest film, I realize how easy it is to stiffen up and think too much about the wrong things.

Wednesday 29th November

Model: Adrienne. Time 2hrs approx. Oil on canvas.
Quickish sketch of model. Stopped before destroying it by over-working.

Wed 28th June

Model: Melissa
Oil on canvas. 11x14. A simple art school pose but I chose to paint her from the front because it was more of a challenge than a profile which has less flat area and subtle changes of colour.
Time 2hrs.

Wednesday 31st May

Model: David

First time back in the studio for several weeks. Work got in the way.

Wednesday 19th April

Model: Mike
Oil on canvas board. I tried to capture the pose more acurately here and feel the model
reclining in the armchair. I lightened the tone slightly but kept color differences between the skin and the background.

Wednesday 12th April

Model:Adrienne

Oil on canvas board. Almost 3 hours. Could have done with another hour.
I'm still not applying the paint as thick as I would like.

Wednesday 5th April

Model: Karen
8x10.Oil on canvas. 2 1/2 hours.
OK, so again I should be careful of the anatomy of the study and not rush into painting without constantly checking proportions. But we had turned off some of the overhead lights and it was a little darker than usual so I'm using that as my excuse. The original does look better than this scanned image.

Wednesday 29th March

Model: Jennifer
Oil on canvas. I tried a more illustrative approach here, keeping the brushstrokes visible. The background color gives the painting a 60's feel (not intentional).Overall I'm pleased with the results but I must be more aware of the anatomy, if you notice her thigh is a little long.

Wednesday 1st March

Model: Toni
I tried to have a little more confidence with my brushstrokes in this painting. Played around with her TT's for a while. For some reason I couldn't get them right....Still not sure!

Woman in a Pink Hat...

This is a painting I did in 2004. The added piece of clothing adds so much to the picture.

Model:Monica
Tricky angle. It was a long day.....................

Model:Nicole
Things are looking up. I'm very pleased with this painting. I used an 8x10 canvas, maybe the smaller size is a good starting place.

My favorite.

I enjoyed painting this one because of her hair colour and skins tones.

One for the wall...

I spent a litle more time on this one and luckily I didn't balls it up, so I'm pleased with the result. About two and a half hours. It's tricky when you think you should stop the painting before ruining it but you need to add some more details to make it more complete....where's the save button!?

1960's Playboy..unfinished

Painted Sketches..

Several quick sketches of different faces to loosen up. It's good not to get to bogged down with completing a picture, here I stopped when I wanted to .....but by the time I came to paint again the oils had dried up so I couldn't continue anyway, I would only have messed things up.

Paintings done just for fun...

Painted from a magazine photo..

This was painted from an image in a magazine of an Hollywood actress whom I forget the name of..which is good because it probably doesn't look much like her..

Another painted from a magazine....makes good practice I guess.

A painting from a photograph.

A caricature of Bette Davis painted several years ago. Painted in acrylic, which took some getting used to after painting with oils...

Me if I were a South Park character..

Paint Sketches 2006

A diary of the year 2006. Each Wednesday I will attempt a painting class and hopefully by the end of the year I will have made some progress with my ability to control the medium of oil paint. We will see...I will probably get worse and worse..Whoo Hoo!
