Painting on panel board which is smoother than canvas presents a bit of a challenge. Every time I applied paint I took off some with the same brush stroke. This might take some getting used to.

After a few months break from painting, working on my latest film, I realize how easy it is to stiffen up and think too much about the wrong things.

Quickish sketch of model. Stopped before destroying it by over-working.

Oil on canvas. 11x14. A simple art school pose but I chose to paint her from the front because it was more of a challenge than a profile which has less flat area and subtle changes of colour.
Time 2hrs.

First time back in the studio for several weeks. Work got in the way.

Oil on canvas board. I tried to capture the pose more acurately here and feel the model
reclining in the armchair. I lightened the tone slightly but kept color differences between the skin and the background.

I'm still not applying the paint as thick as I would like.

OK, so again I should be careful of the anatomy of the study and not rush into painting without constantly checking proportions. But we had turned off some of the overhead lights and it was a little darker than usual so I'm using that as my excuse. The original does look better than this scanned image.
